“New Church Planting”
Reverend Dr. Alonzo Patterson and Reverend William Greene became
aware of the need for a mission in the Eagle River area in March
1985. A decision was made that Shiloh Baptist Missionary Church
sponsor a mission in Eagle River, Alaska. The pastor of the mission
would be Reverend William Greene. The first service of the Eagle
River Mission was held at Eagle River Elementary School on May 18,
1985. Rev. Patterson delivered the first message, "Put a little
salt in the river."
On December 4, 1986, Eagle River Missionary Baptist Church was
issued a certificate of incorporation thereby becoming a recognized
non-profit organization.
In addition to providing spiritual guidance to the Eagle River
community, Eagle River Missionary Baptist Church has performed several
community service projects. The Chugach/Eagle River Food Pantry
provides food for needy families in the area. This program is run
by the church through Pastor and Sister Greene. The mission department
of Eagle River Baptist Church have volunteered in Senior Centers
in the Chugiak and Anchorage area.
The Lord Jesus came to Pastor Greene in January, 1997 with a vision
on how he wanted his church to be built. In this vision the Lord
showed the dimension of his house and that the church would be completed.
He also showed him that he shall fill this house.
